We are living in an uncertain time that is leaving many of us with unanswered questions. How will you pay your utility bills? What about your rent? Your credit card bill? These are all the questions that many of us are finding ourselves asking. As unemployment has risen to over 3 million in the past two weeks alone, many providers are offering temporary relief, and answers to some of these tough questions.

Being without a job or facing reduced hours at work can make it difficult to pay your utility bills, credit card, loan, and mortgage payments. But the good news is that many banks and utility companies have announced they are willing to work with customers impacted by the coronavirus through a number of programs, including fee waivers and payment deferrals.

Energy Companies Offering Relief

Energy companies such as ConEdison, PG&E, National Grid, Ambit Energy, Green Mountain Power, Georgia Power, Indiana Power, and Light, NV Energy, Domination Energy, Duke Energy, and Citizens Energy group are amongst the list of energy providers offering relief for their customers.

ConEdison will provide power despite the lack of payments. Service will not be shut off for non-payment, waiving new late-payment fees, suspending no-access fees if they can’t read your meter. They will not charge fees for making payments with credit cards or debit cards. Most customers can arrange for payment extensions and agreements online.

Mobile & Internet Carriers Offering Relief

Mobile and internet carriers such as Spectrum, Comcast (Xfinity), AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile/Sprint, and Atlantic Broadband are also offering their customers extensions and late payment plan options in order to accommodate during this time.

Companies like Spectrum won’t terminate service for 60 days for residential or small business customers who face difficult economic circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, they won’t charge late fees for those customers facing difficult economic circumstances related to the pandemic
